Reports have emerged today linking Arsene Wenger with a sensational raid on the Bundesliga to secure the services of both Marco Reus and Mario Gotze.
According to the Daily Mail, the young pair of German internationals have interested Wenger for a while and, with both of them displaying fantastic form for their respective clubs, now is a prime chance to snap them up.
Reus, still just 22, continued his prolific run of form in front of goal at the weekend, netting a hat-trick as his side, Borussia Monchengladbach, disposed of Werder Bremen with a 5-0 win.
Having now scored ten times in the first 13 league matches of the season, the frontman has fully justified his £15 million price tag and looks very likely to add to his 3 international caps.
Gotze himself has scored five times and set up four more goals in the eleven Bundesliga matches he has played in for Borussia Dortmund so far this season and has caught the eye of Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who looks set to join Wenger in a £35 million race for the player’s signature.
Speaking to Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Rummenigge was full of praise for both of Arsenal’s targets.
Gotze is a magnificent player despite being only 19 years old. Of course we observe such players," said the Bayern legend.
"Reus has a clause in his contract that isn't exactly cheap (but) he could give us even more quality in the long run."
