Arsenal outcast Marouane Chamakh’s future at the club will hinge on the movements of Robin van Persie, the player’s agent has revealed.
Chamakh has notably fallen out of favour at the Emirates, made more difficult last season by Van Persie’s astonishing form, and it looked as though the Moroccan striker would be leaving sooner rather than later.
However, according to Arseblog, the former Bordeaux man’s future is not as clear cut as was initially believed.
While the arrival of Lukas Podolski and the completion of a deal for Olivier Giroud will increase the competition for positions at Arsenal, the player’s future will solely depend on whether the club can agree new terms for contract rebel Van Persie.
Chamakh’s agent said: “The priority is Arsenal. If Van Persie leaves, he wants to stay. If Van Persie stays, he should certainly look elsewhere. If they take Giroud, he will be competing with him.”
The 28 year-old was thought to be a makeweight in any protracted deal for French striker Giroud, but his parent club Montpellier rejected his inclusion in the deal.
However, it has been suggested that Chamakh could join the Ligue 1 champions on a season-long loan deal, as they look to find a long term replacement for the departing Giroud.
