Arsenal are being lined with Wigan forward Victor Moses amid fears that Theo Walcott could decide to follow Robin van Persie's lead and refuse to sign a new contract with the club.
Walcott also has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and there is a growing concern that he could turn down any offers for a new deal and decide to leave the club.
The 21-year-old is in high demand after an impressive end to the season with Wigan, with the likes of Liverpool said to be interested, while Chelsea have already had an initial offer rejected by the clubs chairman Dave Whelan.
Arsenal will certainly be hoping that they can convince Walcott to sign a new deal but Wenger does not want to be in a situation where he has to find a replacement late in the transfer window.
Walcott was the second top scorer at the club last season, behind Van Persie, but has often been subjected to boo's from the crowd who become frustrated with his lack of consistency.
Wigan know that Moses is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs and they will hope that they can drive up his fee if there is a bidding war.
