Arsenal Line Up Argentine As Potential Song Replacement

Arsene Wenger will attempt to bring long-term target Lucas Biglia to the Emirates, should Alex Song’s heavily speculated move to Barcelona go through.

The Anderlecht midfielder moved to Belgium from Independiente back in 2006, and the imposing but technically gifted 25-year-old has been on the Arsenal manager’s radar since that move. Biglia’s progression in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League has been notable, helping the side to three league titles, and Sky Sports suggest that Arsenal may take this time to move for the player, as interest from clubs across Europe also begins to gather.

Alex Song’s Arsenal future was cast in further doubt this morning when Wenger revealed that the combative midfielder could be sold before the end of the transfer window, and with Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong still a few months away from their return dates, the Cameroonian’s departure would likely call for a replacement to bought in immediately.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t been the only manager monitoring the progress of Biglia. Sky Sports report that Real Madrid and Inter Milan have maintained an interest in the Argentine, in addition to a number of unnamed Premier League clubs.
