Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has admitted he is 'excited' about driving the Italian manufacturer's challenger for the 2012 Formula One season.
The Spaniard, who is in his third season with the Maranello-based team, also said that he supports the team's decision to use the 'step-nose' design, as well as the new pull-rod front suspension.
As reported on Autosport, he said at the car's unveiling: “With the new car the first feeling was very good from the beginning.
“I like the shape, the creative shape that we see in this new car. I think when a car surprises you from the first look, it's always a positive thing and I quite like the car. Hopefully it's fast.”
The former double-world champion defended the questionable look of the new car, dubbed the F2012, by saying that Ferrari are synonymus with championing aesthetics and design.
I think all Ferraris are beautiful cars. I don't remember any Ferrari that is ugly or any Ferrari that you don't like. The red colour and the passion of each car that Ferrari does make the car beautiful anyway.”
Alonso will no doubt be looking to make more of an impact this season, building on his solitary victory at the British Grand Prix last season.
His team-mate Felipe Massa, who has come under criticism for his below-par performances last season, said he was also pleased with the new look of the F2012.
“I'm very enthusiastic that we're going to have a different car and a car where we go to a different direction in terms of development.”
"We still need to get used to this nose, which is very strange due to the new rules. But apart from the nose the car is very aggressive and very nice and I hope we're going to see a very competitive car from the beginning to the end."
