It might seem like a commentator's nightmare but, at Chester races on Friday 9th July 2010, every lady rider in the Breast Cancer Care Pink Mile will be dressed in specially designed pink racing silks.
The horserace, which is being organised to raise funds for charity, will continue the 'pink lady' theme with pink number cloths on the horses, all of whom will be fillies. There will also be a pink winning post erected at the finishing line, especially for the occasion, and racegoers are also encouraged to wear pink on the night.
This first ever pink horserace is being hosted by Chester Racecourse and Racing for Change, the body set up to broaden the appeal of the sport, with the aim of raising 25,000, so that Breast Cancer Care can continue supporting people affected by breast cancer.
There will be a number of fund raising initiatives and Racing UK, the UK's leading racing channel, have agreed to donate 5 of every subscription on that day to Breast Cancer Care. They will also be screening the race free-to-air, so anyone with Sky TV can watch it, while some of the country's top bookmakers have also committed to donating a percentage of their profits on the race.
In the race itself, some of the country's top professional female jockeys will be competing against several of the best amateur lady riders for the honour of victory. The winning connections can expect to collect their trophy from Louise Owen, wife of footballer Michael, who is a keen racing fan and local racehorse owner.
The Racecourse will also be hosting other celebrities on the night as many of the stars from the hit Channel 4 soap opera, Hollyoaks, will be in attendance as the programme is also sponsoring a race during the evening.
