Pakistan have won the third Test by 71 runs as England slipped to a 3-0 series defeat, losing ten wickets on day four of the Test match in Dubai.
England began the day on 36-0 chasing 324 for victory, however, it looked an increasingly difficult task as the batsman have struggled throughout the entire series to find form with the bat.
The world number one Test team had already lost the series but hoped to at least avoid the whitewash as they set out to chase down the target for victory.
Alistair Cook eventually fell for 49 and despite starts from all of the middle order, England found it impossible to stop the wickets from falling and Matt Prior was left stranded on 49 not out as Pakistan won they third Test with a day to spare.
Jonathon Trott and Andrew Strauss both fell in the morning session, before Kevin Pieterson, Cook, Ian Bell and Eoin Morgan all fell in the afternoon as England once again struggled with Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul.
Ajmal picked up 4-67 as he took his wicket haul to 24 for the series, while Gul once again was the pick of the seam bowlers as he finished with 4-61.
It has been the batsman that have let England down throughout the series as they have struggled to cope with the spinners and it was once agains evident in these Test match.
England had bowled superbly on the first day of the Test math as they had Pakistan 44-7 before eventually bowling them out for 99. With Pakistan claiming the victory they became the first side since 1907 to win a test match after failing to reach three figures in their first innings.
England captain Andrew Strauss admitted that it was a collective failure from the batsmen and that he was surprised that they did not manage to achieve a competitive score.
"I think I am a little bit surprised that we didn't get bigger scores on the board over the the Test matches," Strauss told Sky Sports. "There was a consistent failure on our part.
"You don't become a great side overnight and you don't become a bad side overnight, but there are lessons we need to learn. We played better in the third Test than at the start of the first but that's too little too late."
