Quigg Digs Deep To Defend Title

Scott Quigg defended his British super-bantamweight title, and maintained his unbeaten record with an eighth-round stoppage of Jamie Arthur.

In a cagey affair Quigg was made to work, and had to show heart to get up off the canvas, after a left hook floored him in the fourth round. The knock-down surprised Quigg and acted as a catalyst, as the fight suddenly came alive.

After surviving the rest of the round, the Bury fighter found his feet and re-gained control of the contest, wearing down Arthur over the course of the next four rounds.

Arthur sustained a cut around his right eye in the seventh round, but the fight was stopped 35 seconds into the eighth, after referee Mark Green stepped in to protect Arthur, after the veteran fighter spun around following a left hook to the body.

That was enough for the referee, but Arthur felt he could have continued.

After the fight he told Sky Sports:It was a good shot to the solar plexus, I was off balance and stood up to get a bit of wind into me.

“When he pulled me out I was turned on my side, my shoulder was already [facing] towards the referee. I'm just disappointed, I put him down in the fourth and it was turning into an absolute barnstormer of a fight."

Quigg extended his unbeaten record to 24-0 following the victory, but admitted that he would consider offering Arthur a rematch.

If he feels disappointed about the result I'd gladly give him a rematch otherwise we'll have to sit down and see what options there are,” he said.
