WBC Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been handed a 90-day jail sentence, after pleading guilty to assault.
Mayweather was charged with attacking former girlfriend Josie Harris and following the sentence, was also order to pay a fine of $2,500 and complete 100 hours of community service.
The 34 year-old's punishment throws his potential fight with Manny Pacquiao into major doubt, with a protracted date of 5 May considered too close to his release from prison.
Prosecutors said that the undefeated fighter's chequered history meant that a jail sentence was a favourable outcome.
Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich told Judge Melissa Saragosa: "He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well.
"Essentially it is because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything. The only thing that's going to get this man's attention is incarceration."
