Carl Frampton has quickly earned a reputation as one of the most exciting young boxers on the British scene and is hoping that he will be able break onto the world scene in 2012.
First the Belfast boxer has to successfully navigate his way past Kris Hughes as he defends his Commonwealth title at York Hall on Saturday night.
Frampton has won all 11 of his professional fights and under the tutelage of Barry McGuigan is expected to have a bright future in the sport.
The 24-year-old is being touted as a future opponent for British super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg who is also undefeated and hoping to compete for a world title this year.
However, Frampton is willing to wait to face Quigg and is hoping that he will be able to make his American debut on the undercard of the Matthew Macklin and Sergio Martinez fight which takes place on St. Patrick's Day.
"Eddie Hearn and Barry have discussed about the New York fight and if I get through Saturday injury-free it’s a real possibility," Frampton told the Daily Mail.
'You dream about boxing in venues like Madison Square Garden when you are a kid and if I can get another win there then a fight with Kiko [Martinez] or Scott in the summer would surely be sealed.
"But I'm totally focused on Saturday – I've read things where he's [Hughes] said that he thinks we have overlooked him and are looking at fights beyond tonight, but that is not the case."
