Burns to Make First Defence Against Moses

Scottish champion Ricky Burns will make the first defence of his interim WBO lightweight title on 10 March when he faces Paulus Moses.

The Naminian has lost just once in 29 fights and is a former WBA champion, having defeated Japanese fighter Takehiro Shimada in Tokyo back in 2009.

Burns has only recently made the step up from super-featherweight and will hope to make an impression against the durable 33-year-old Moses who has 19 KO's to his name.

The fight will take place at the Braehead Arena with Burn's manager revealing that he expects a tough night for the champion as Moses will provide a "stiff test" for the Scotsman.

"He's a bit of a knockout specialist," Morrison told BBC Scotland. "And you don't go to Japan and a win a world title without having something about you."

Burns impressed in his last outing as he overcame Michael Katsidis in a one sided affair that went a long way to proving the 28-year-old could mix it at world level after making the step up in weight.

Should Juan Manuel Marquez acate his WBO title then Burns could step into the ring in March with the full title to his name.
