French triple jumper and world indoor record holder Teddy Tamgho has been handed a 12 month ban, with six months suspended, after being charged for an altercation with a female athlete.
The incident happened in October during a training camp, but it has taken until now for the disciplinary board to decide the extent of his punishment.
Tamgho will therefore miss March's World Indoor Championships, but will crucially be available for selection for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The 22 year-old won gold at the 2010 Indoor Championships with a new world record jump of 17.90m and is considered one of the main threats to Philips Idowu's quest for gold at the summer games.
A spokesman for the Frenchman said: "He expressed his regrets and acknowledges the verdict."
