Newcastle have emerged as one of the surprise candidates to sign free agent and former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou.
The Ivory Coast international decided not to renew his contract at Chelsea and after winning the Champions League, decided that he would leave on a bosman free transfer.
Now a free agent he will have his pick of clubs, but, according to Talksport, he could yet remain in the Premier League with Newcastle keen to sign the 26-year-old.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is looking to bolster his squad after an impressive season which led to them qualifying for the Europa League, which means a much more hectic schedule for the north east club.
However, it will not be a simple deal to complete as there are a number of clubs from around Europe interested in trying to sign Kalou.
The same report claims that German side Schalke are also keen to offer him a contract and with the added bonus of Champions League football it could be hard to turn down.
Kalou may have struggled for game time last season but he did make close to 250 appearances for the Blues in his six year spell with the club, in which time he scored 60 goals.
