Messi Joins Forces with EA SPORTS For Release of FIFA Street

In what has been billed as the most high-profile football transfer this season, the Ballon D’Or winning world’s greatest footballer – Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi – has switched allegiances to join his former employers most bitter rival.

I should pause, reassure you that the diminutive wizard will be remaining at the Nou Camp and not teaming up with Cristiano Ronaldo just yet. Far from it. Messi will in fact be leaving poor Cristiano, making the move from Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer series, to debut as the face of FIFA Street in March 2012.

Recently, Electronic Arts Inc. revealed that as the “FIFA franchise is the number one selling sports videogame franchise in the world, and Lionel Messi is the number one player in the world, [the] agreement is a true partnership of superstars.”

The partnership will recognize Messi as an EA SPORTS Football Ambassador, establishing Messi as the cornerstone of the future direction of the FIFA franchise as a whole.  Working closely with the Leo Messi Foundation, the FIFA franchise works tirelessly to support social, educational and health related initiatives for children across the globe.

Released in March, the latest addition to the FIFA Street series will bring the skill of the professionals to grassroots; bringing Messi and friends literally to your doorstep.

As the brand continues to grow – the critically acclaimed FIFA 12 sold a record-breaking 3.2 million copies in the first five days of its release – the franchise shows no signs of slowing after 19 years of dedication.

With FIFA 12 confirmed as the biggest launch in the history of sports videogames, FIFA Street will once again satiate your need for footballing greatness.
