Brits Abroad – Agencies Perspective

More and more British footballers are moving abroad in search of first team football and Sportsvibe.co.uk have taken it upon themselves to keep you updated with these talented young players. Over the past few months we have interviewed a number of players from England that now ply their trade in foreign lands.

Over the course of the past few years marquee players such as David Beckham and Joe Cole have moved away from these shores to find clubs but it is not just something the older generation of players are doing.

A whole host of young players have begun to explore options further afield and one of the latest young British stars who is set for a move abroad is former Arsenal and Liverpool starlet Jason Banton.

The 19-year-old has signed up for the MLS SuperDraft, which takes places in Kansas on Thursday and one person that feels more players will be following the path of Banton in the near future is his advisor Ryan Badu from Ad Alta Sports.

Speaking exclusively to Sportsvibe.co.uk, Badu explains with more foreign players coming over here there are limited spaces for English players at top clubs: “Like any other business or economy a lot of Premiership and Championship sides are bringing in loads of foreign players.

"The likes of Christiano Ronaldo and Nani are brought in when they are 18, but clubs are also bringing elite foreigners into youth teams and lots of the clubs have players playing for their countries in their youth teams.

"Therefore when young English players are coming through the ranks at Premiership clubs, where they might of been the leading player and got a few games in the first team, now, they have to filter down the leagues and battle there."

Badu explains that it could become a common trend amongst young English players with foreign clubs keen to bring in British talent.

"We as an agency like to feel like it is something we specialise in, giving an option of playing abroad to the players on our books," he continued. "It's really powerful when you have DVD footage of a player playing for teams like Arsenal and Liverpool, these are massive brands in the world of football.

"People are very keen to have a look at the English players. I like working with clubs from countries that speak English as it is easier for the players to settle in and the MLS is a great option for young English players."

As well as Banton, Badu also represents former Arsneal youth player Ryan Smith who has already made the move to MLS with Chivas and both players have represented England at youth level. Badu believes that moving abroad won't harm young players chances of representing their country at senior level.

"I would like to have faith in the FA that they would consider picking English players that are playing abroad," he added. "International football is a consequence of your club football. I would like to think if a young player was doing well in a good competition like the MLS or in Spain or Italy then the FA would consider these players."
