Kath Takes Gold at the Worlds to Justify Her Place in King's College History!

Good to see the indomitable Katherine Grainger winning yet another world rowing title (her 6th) with new partner Anna Watkins in the women's double sculls in Bled, Slovenia, at the weekend.

She is, with three agonising silver medals in the past three Olympic Games, the female version of Sir Steve Redgrave, and where better a place to finally crack gold than the London Olympics (well, Eton, in the case of rowing) next year?

Will it be fourth time lucky? I hope so, and it's certainly looking good thus far. Katherine is one of my favourite sports stars because she is intelligent and entertaining, and is studying criminology, specialising in homicide - and that's a little different from your usual sportsperson.

Kath's been a student at King's College, London for many years now as she tries to complete a course constantly interrupted by her rowing.

I have one problem with her, and only one. Her face adorns the outside of the university building on London's Strand, along with famous other alumnis. Now this is the university where I, too, was educated. You might think the Editor of your favourite sports website might be plastered all over King's College. You would be very wrong! And every time Kath sees me she reminds me of this! Still, I forgive her. And I hope with all my heart that she finally cracks the big one next year in her fourth, last and most important Olympics of them all.
