Getting Our Kicks!

Getting Our Kicks!

Congratulations to Stuart Tinner, 250,000 better off after he punted a rugby ball on to the Wembley crossbar from 30 metres out on Tuesday night in front of 46,000 fans watching the Saracens v South Africa half-time entertainment. He did it in his bare feet, was congratulated by the on-pitch presenter, Francois Pienaar, and was then mobbed by the Saracens cheerleaders. In contrast .... a couple of years back I attempted three conversions from 22, 30 and 40 metres during the half-time entertainment at the Wales v Fiji international at the Millennium Stadium. I'd even had some coaching from Neil Jenkins, Paul Thorburn and the then England kicking coach, Dave Alred, but only managed to convert my first effort from 22 metres, with the other two kicks having the legs but going wide. Apart from the ignominy of hearing certain sections of the crowd laugh I then had to face my former university flatmate, Roger, who was inside the stadium and praying for me to miss all three! I think Stuart had the better experience!
