Sportsvibe today salutes Sir Keith MIlls, whom we had the pleasure of coffee with the other day at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge. For those of you who are unsure who exactly Sir Keith is, let me provide you with a brief resume: the man who invented air miles and Nectar made his millions and turned to sport, having already been a crew member when Alex Thompson won the Round the World Clipper Race in 1999.
Mills became Chief Executive of the London 2012 campaign and was therefore hugely influential in bringing the Games to our capital city. He is now Deputy Chairman of LOCOG, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. As if this is not enough Sir Keith is also the Team Principle for Team Origin, Britain's America's Cup team who, next week, will challenge the current holders, USA's BMW Oracle, to three days of match-racing and a Round the Isle of Wight Race and, hopefully in late 2013, will challenge them again for the America's Cup.
Of course, a man has to fill his days so, apart from organising the Olympics and the America's Cup Sir Keith is also a consultant for the 2018 England World Cup bid. What he does after his tea, I don't know! However, this I do know. If BP really want to stop their leak all they have to do is ask Sir Keith, a man with the infectious enthusiam of a child. He'd probably stick his influential finger in the hole and that would be that!
