Ennis Wins Gold, Now For That Strudel!

Ennis Wins Gold, Now For That Strudel!

Just back from a glorious Saturday night in Barcelona where Mo Farah, Dai Greene and especially Jessica Ennisconfirmed that British athletics is back on track after a lean spell following the halcyon days of the sport between 1978 and 1995.

Ennis, a Sportsvibe favourite, was particularly impressive against a field including all the world's best heptathletes save for America's Hyleas Fountain because, for once, she did not have it all her own way.

The Ukraine's Olympic champion, Natalyia Dobrynska asked some serious questions of the Sheffield girl and Ennis answered all of them emphatically.

Leading by a flimsy margin after day one she saved her best long jump until last, and then pulled out a personal best in the javelin before winning the 800 metres in style, taking out her nearest rival in the home straight after Dobrynska had over taken her with150 metres to go.

It proved that Ennis is not only good at winning with a big lead, but also when it gets tough and bodes very well for the world championships next year and the 2012 London Olympics whereshe is on course to become the poster girl of the Games.

And so we salute you, Jessica Ennis, the undoubted Queen of British sport this morning and remind you of your promise on our exclusive Sportsvibe TV interview with you - don't forget to make us that Apple Strudel!
