Emily Scarratt: A Roller Coaster Six Months

Emily Scarratt: A Roller Coaster Six Months

The last six months have been a combination of huge highs, difficult lows, commitment, hard work, exhaustion, fatigue, injuries, illnesses and a huge roller coaster of emotions!

And I wouldn't have wanted to go through it all with anybody else other than the 17 girls that started this journey with me all the way back in January!! The journey that will see its conclusion this weekend at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow.

I am extremely excited to have been named in the 12-player squad to go to the World Cup and represent England. It's a very strong looking squad and a replica of the team that went to and won the first leg of the European championship in Brive.

The squad has been training together for the last week and the mood in camp is one brimming with excitement. This last week has seen a nostalgic trip through our six months together and a sad realisation that it is, all too quickly, going to be over very soon. Training has been going well and coming off the back of our performances in Brive there is a real sense of things fitting together nicely.

Some final touches will be done when we are in Moscow but we can take huge confidence from knowing that all the fitness and conditioning work and the majority of our training is in the bank and waiting to be called on come the weekend.

We have a tough pool; France first up then Japan and finally Russia on what will be a difficult first day. France have really been hitting some form coming out the back of the European championships and an English French clash is always a passionate affair.

The Japanese too have been improving and with some very small agile runners we will certainly have to keep a very close eye on them. Russia, the hosts, and newly crowned European champions will be a huge test for us.

They have presented themselves as a real force this year and we have had some really tight contests with them through the course of this year.

We have all trained so hard, set our targets to the highest point and all that is left is for us to go out there and prove what we as a team believe...that we can be the best in the world. I hope you all will be supporting us!
